Teaching and Inspiration

Sewing and Foamsmithing Instructor

I teach recurring sewing and foamsmithing classes to both adults and young makers. Hosts includes conventions, Craftcation, libraries, Cosplay America, and maker spaces.

Cosplay Contest Coordinator

Game Con Canada and Cleveland ConCoction

I planned the entire cosplay competition and showcases for both conventions for multiple years. This included vetting and hiring judges, filtering contestant applications, writing emcee scripts, and planning the day-of schedule. The contests themselves were day-long affairs involving 50+ people and very tight judging and show schedules, all of which I coordinated.

Technical Instructor

I was also the group photographer; my photographs were used for local and national social media and marketing.

(Volunteer) Programming Instructor

Code.org's Hour of Code
December 2015 - December 2018

I taught programming classes to young people (ages ranging from kindergarten to high school) during Hour of Code week, which aims to get as many students as possible coding for just one hour. These classes are both a formal foundation to coding and an intro to life as a software developer.

Programming Instructor

I taught multiple one-week sessions to elementary and middle schoolers in programming, robotics, and web development. These were full-day classes including meals, recess, formal instruction, and student presentations. I was responsible for five classes of 20 students at a time. We used Alice, Scratch, and LEGO NXT programming languages and hardware.
